SWAN is pleased to announce a conference at Liverpool Hope University on Wednesday 10th June 2015, entitled 'PsychoPolitics in the Twenty First Century: Peter Sedgwick and radical movements in mental health'.

The conference is supported by SWAN and the Critical and Radical Social Work Journal. It will be a relatively low cost event and we are keen to encourage participation by SWAN and other activists. A flyer and call for papers are attached below.

West Midlands SWAN, in conjunction with Birmingham Unison and Birmingham Against the Cuts, have written to Sir Albert Bore - Leader of Birmingham City Council - about its cuts to children's services budgets and links between these cuts and public criticism of children's services in the city. This includes the OFSTED Inspection of safeguarding services in September 2012 which rated those services to be inadequate.

On Friday  (17 October, 2014) the annual meeting of the ‘All Ireland Social Work Educators and Researchers’ Forum’ took place. Held this year at the National University of Ireland (NUI) Galway and representing  social work educators, located in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, this motion was agreed;

Get yourself to this important meeting on Thursday in the Teachers Club, Dublin at 6pm. Members of the Dublin SWAN group will be there. We urgently need to align with grassroots groups like this in order to properly empower the people we work with.
